There are literally tons of different kinds of treatments, therapies, and interventions available today for treating autism but as a parent, how are you supposed to know which one is best for your son or daughter?
These days it seems like nobody, including doctors, researchers, and parents, can agree on which treatment is the best or most effective. The only proven method of improving symptoms of autism is called Applied Behavior Analysis or ABA.
The problem is that because every child is different and every case of autism is different, what treatment works for one may not work for another.
Many parents discover that a combination of treatments is best. Children with autism who receive a combination of intensive behavioral therapy, speech and language therapy, and special education in public schools improve considerably.
As a parent, you may have to do some researching of your own to find what therapies might be best for your child. Talk to your doctor and ask him or her to help you chose a therapeutic program to support your child.
NOTE: The earlier in life therapy starts, the better adult life the person will enjoy.
